Step-by-step setup
Decide which of the two before installing
IPTV Smarters is free and takes an ordinary login. Smart IPTV is lighter — which tells on older sets — and charges a one-off activation per television, paid to its developer. One old set: worth it. Three sets: that is three fees, and Smarters starts looking sensible. Deciding now avoids installing both.
Find the store
Home, then Apps, with search in the upper corner — the same place your existing apps came from. If there is no Apps entry at all, the set predates 2016, nothing here will work, and a stick in a spare HDMI socket is the honest answer.
Connect it, by whichever route your app takes
Smarters: Login with Xtream Codes, then the three values. **Smart IPTV: there is no login field at all.** It displays a MAC address instead, and you pair your M3U link to that address at siptv.app/mylist from a phone. This is where nearly every Samsung support message originates — people conclude the app is broken. It is behaving exactly as designed, and the design is why it stays fast on old hardware.
Close the app properly and reopen
Returning to the home screen does not close an app on Tizen. Shut it down fully. Channels and guide arrive on the second launch, and skipping this produces an empty app plus an entirely reasonable conclusion that the upload failed.
Turn off Picture Clarity
Samsung sets ship with motion smoothing enabled, which makes live sport look strange and has nothing to do with any provider. Switch it off in the picture settings before comparing this against anything, or you will attribute a television setting to a service — which happens, and we cannot fix it from here.
Note the MAC somewhere permanent
If you took the Smart IPTV route, write the MAC address down outside the television. You will need it again after any factory reset, after some firmware updates, and if you ever re-upload a playlist. People who did not keep it end up hunting through menus at an inconvenient moment, and it is thirty seconds now.
Set the quality for this screen
4K if the Samsung is the main television; HD if it is a bedroom set. This single choice does more for a busy evening than anything else in these instructions, because 4K costs three to four times the bandwidth and a household rarely needs it on more than one screen.
Trim the list for the room
Hide the categories nobody here opens and put the regulars into favourites. A Samsung remote was never designed to scroll thousands of entries and never will be.
Common errors and fixes
Smart IPTV shows a MAC address and no password box
Whose: neither — it is the design. Note the address, go to siptv.app/mylist on a phone, enter it exactly with colons, paste your M3U link, tick Keep online and send. Nothing is typed on the television at all.
The list uploaded but the television shows nothing
Whose: yours, usually a mistyped MAC. Restart the app properly first, since that alone fixes most. Then check the MAC character by character — one wrong character sends your playlist to a television that does not exist, and produces no error to say so.
Smart IPTV says the playlist expired
Whose: neither. It refers to the app's stored copy, not your subscription, and the wording alarms everybody once. Re-send the M3U to the same MAC. Nothing has lapsed and nothing is owed.
Sound plays, screen stays black
Whose: the decoder. Switch the app to native or hardware decoding. Where exactly one channel does it and the rest are fine, change that channel to its lower-bitrate twin instead of altering the global setting.
The app vanished after a software update
Whose: Samsung. Tizen updates occasionally remove or reset sideloaded-adjacent apps and nothing prevents it. Reinstall from the store, then re-enter the three values for Smarters or re-upload the playlist for Smart IPTV. Nothing about your subscription changes and there is nothing to pay again.

Do I need a stick as well?
Not for this. Any Samsung from 2016 runs one of these players from its own store. A stick becomes worth adding for pre-2016 sets, or if you specifically want TiViMate, which Samsung does not carry and will not be carrying.
Is the Smart IPTV fee yours?
No, and we will be blunt: it goes to the app's developer, who is unconnected to us. We cannot waive, discount or refund it. If paying a third party irritates you — reasonably — Smarters costs nothing on the same television.
A firmware update wiped everything.
Samsung updates occasionally clear app data and nothing prevents it. Smarters wants the three values again, a minute's work; Smart IPTV wants the playlist re-sent to the same MAC. Neither touches your subscription, which is the argument for keeping credentials somewhere other than a chat history.
Will a 2015 model work?
Realistically no. The store on those sets is either gone or missing the relevant apps, and Samsung stopped supporting them years ago. Thirty to fifty dollars of stick gives that television a better player than it ever shipped with, and we would rather tell you that than take your money and troubleshoot it for a week.
Which of the two apps do you recommend?
Smarters, unless the set is old enough to struggle with it. It costs nothing, takes an ordinary login, and behaves the same as the app on every other screen in the house — which matters when one person is supporting everybody else's televisions over the phone.
Can I use both apps on one television?
You can install both, though there is little reason to. If you are testing which performs better on an older set, do exactly that during the Smart IPTV free week and keep whichever feels quicker. Neither affects your subscription and neither counts against anything.
Is a Samsung a good main television for this?
Perfectly good from 2016 onward, with one caveat: the players available on Tizen are less capable than TiViMate on Android. If the person watching sport wants a proper programme grid, a thirty-dollar stick on a spare input gives them that while the television carries on with everything else.
Does installing this affect the set's own apps?
Not at all. It is an ordinary Tizen application from the same store, with no access to anything else on the television. Your existing apps keep their logins and their downloads. The only shared resource is bandwidth, which is why the quality setting matters more than it looks.
